Respect people
- Buy local. Support local restaurants, artisans, and shops. It helps local communities and the economy.
- Always respect the locals and avoid taking photos of people without their consent.
- Don't be intrusive. Your stay should not affect their everyday life.
Respect culture
- Try to learn their language or understand their customs. They appreciate you respecting their culture.
- Dress appropriately. Consider what local people may find offensive. This may be radically different from home.
- Observe national laws and regulations. Follow the rules at religious sites and respect “private spaces”.
Protect your planet
- Reduce waste, single-use plastic, water & energy consumption. Bring reusable water bottle, canvas bags, and reusable cutlery for takeout.
- Plan your transport to leave minimum footprint.
- In protected areas, access only the places open to visitors. Do not offer money to locals to discover "no-go areas".
Protect wildlife
- Admire the wildlife from a safe distance, during night drives don’t use excessive light, don’t call out to animals to get their attention.
- Avoid paying for photos with wildlife or animal performances.
- Any food you might offer wildlife can have a serious impact on their diets and cause them harm. No matter how longingly they look at the food you’re eating, don’t offer them any.
- Do not purchase products made of endangered plants, animals, or non-sustainable hardwood.
